The A Team: The Love of Doing the Impossible!

In the course of my vast experience in the express delivery industry, I have come across all kinds and sorts of requests. Some out of business need, some sheer emotion.

I am thrilled to share some of the most memorable requests received and delivered.

1. Fragile: A couple I befriended at BNI, requested I deliver a fragile glass bowl to their friends and family in Mumbai. These were tiny pieces, but super delicate and hard to handle. About 50 pieces to be delivered. This was in the fond memory of my friend's mother. How could I refuse?

2. Women's Day Special: Women centric themes are recent, especially in India. A florist got us a mandate from a corporate to deliver 100 bouquets delivered to their women employees within Mumbai, on women's day. This was way before #WeFast and #Dunzo came by. Again, a challenging but fun task to deliver. I am hopeful the gesture made a difference.

3. Property Matters: A high profile realtor in Khar who also happens to be a dear friend once called on me to deliver a priority shipment to Goa, only thing he wanted it signed and back to Mumbai in less than 24 hours. #BlueDart refused. Attaboy! now that's an opportunity you don't want to miss. It was fascinating getting the job done. Although I charged a bomb and my when my friend was like this is too much, I quipped, how much is this deal worth?

4. Same Day Bengaluru: Mr. Patel is in the business of wood, the kind we use to get home décor and interiors done. He has a client in Bangalore and they have a high end site in progress. Suddenly the designer wants something and the truck load sent from Mumbai just isn't there yet. So Mr. Patel calls me and he is like can you deliver a packet to Bangalore the same-day? And I am like sure, why not? It used to be Bangalore those days.

5. 2000/24: I already shared a detailed post on this one on LinkedIn and other platforms. Unilever required about 300 odd kilos to be delivered to Vizag within 24 hours from Kandla, that's 2110 Kms to be precise. It was a long night, but fulfilling to the core. And earned good money as well.

6. Tatanagar: Our counterpart in the UK made an unusual request. A document booked on British Airways flight 139 had to be delivered to Jamshedpur the very same day of it's arrival. Received at 0330 AM and delivered at 1530 to the consignee in Jamshedpur. It wasn't a long night, coz I hardly bat an eyelid.

7. Biopsy: A very famous actor of the yesteryears called upon us to deliver a tissue from Bombay to London. His mother was suffering from cancer and there was a critical test report required. Thankfully we used to have onboard couriers or flyers those days. All I had to do was rush to the airport and find one and handed him the tiny envelope and he was happy to oblige. For some cash of course, but the young chap did a fine job.

Every industry has certain challenges and pain points. There are opportunities and the thrill of making a difference and doing the unthinkable. Years turn into decades but the memories of these achievements live on. And most importantly the idea, that I did it.

It is imperative to remind oneself from time to time that you are extraordinary, and you are capable of causing miracles and bring forth results way beyond imagination.

I am sure you as a reader have some fascinating stories to tell as well. There must be memories of magical performance that you acknowledge yourself for and can claim to done it. Feel free to share and post your experience.
